The most Recognizable Ohio State Fan Jon "Big Nut" Peters lives the "Pay It Forward" motto showing it in the Fan he is on game day and the man he is every other day
In civilian clothing, Jon “Big Nut” Peters looks like an ordinary guy. He goes to work each week at his job at Whirlpool, and lives in the small town of Fremont, Ohio. But when game day rolls around, Jon adorns his custom jersey, paints his entire head Scarlett and Grey with the Ohio State University logo and trademark Leaf, and gets ready to tailgate as one of College Sports most fan personalities, the “Big Nut.”
Starting back in 1995 during a competition for best dressed at a Michigan/Ohio State party & fundraiser, Jon felt he could one up the normal winners by painting his face and dressing to the nines in Buckeye swag. Then rose to an iconic level of Super Fan Fame during the 2002 National Championship game when the Buckeyes beat the Miami Hurricanes in OT for the National Title. A game that Jon confesses was one of the greatest games he has ever seen. You can now find Jon in TV Commercials on Fox, ESPN and the Big Ten Network, as well as getting shoutouts from notable Buckeye players and alumni.
Gaining notoriety from his super Fan persona, Jon decided to use his platform to "Pay It Forward" whether it is volunteering for Meals on Wheels, reading to kids at a local elementary school or visiting children at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Jon lives true to his beliefs.
Taking his giving back to another level in 2011 Jon founded The Big Nut Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) charity that has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to students in Northwest Ohio through events and appearances.
